October 2010 Newsletter

Happy October and Cooler Temperatures to You! I believe all of us are breathing a sigh of relief at the much needed cooler temperatures! This summer has been a scorcher! This begins my season of graciously allowing my power company to feel a recession from our household, in that of a MUCH lower utility bill! Unfortunately for Glynn, this is when his blankets come out ... lol.

Here's what's happening with Mid South Scrappers along with important dates that you'll want to mark your calendar for.

Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza: This event is just under two weeks away and a total sellout! How exciting is this!!! We have 39 croppers attending with the vast majority of them choosing the "Luxury Option" which fills two spaces with one registration! 26 of these croppers are brand new to the event!!! The word is spreading and croppers are coming!

We also have more vendors than ever before as well! Counting Kathy's "Oh Scrap" bags and my cards, we have seven vendors! We're also trying something brand new ... Fab Dorsett is bringing her BeautiControl and some Fun, Fashion Jewelry. This is going to be one more FUN weekend full of scrappin', shoppin' and making lots of new friends! I can't wait!

2011 Weekend Dates are Set! I've listed the event dates as well as when registration begins for each one, so pay close attention to those. The prices will remain the same; Luxury Option $140 and Thrifty Option is $95. The location will also be the same, Kirkwood National Golf Course's Cottages in Holly Springs, MS.

Pajama Crop Party Weekend: March 4th - 6th, 2011. Registration begins on Monday, October 18, 2010 with Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza attendees and vendors having first dibs on their spots over their weekend. October 18, 2010 will also be the date that I will begin accepting applications for vendors for this event.

Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza Weekend: October 28th - 30th, 2011. Registration begins on Friday, March 11, 2011 with Pajama Crop Party attendees and vendors having first dibs on their spots over their weekend. March 11, 2011 will also be the date that I will begin accepting applications for vendors for this event.

Summer Croppin' Weekend: At this time I do not have a weekend scheduled for the summer as there seems to be too much going on both physically and financially for our croppers. However, if there's enough interest, a minimum of 25 croppers, I'll be glad to get a weekend booked.

Now to the Personal Stuff: Quite a few of you have been following up with me about our relocation to Mountain Home. I can now tell you that this was not successful. Without going into detail, Glynn decided that this really wasn't the best thing for him (and us) to do for a whole lot of reasons. While this has been his "dream" for over 20 years, it should have remained just that ... a dream. (Those are his words, not mine.) We have been on the "roller coaster ride of our lives" and are back home to STAY!

I can't tell you how much I've appreciated the emails and posts on Facebook but couldn't respond as things were just too unsettled and unsure. Things seem to finally be getting back in order but there are still several hurdles to cross. Hopefully by January 2011, this will all be behind us and an experience we'll look back on with a quick glance. One thing's for sure, we know just how much we mean to each other and the daily presence of each other is powerful!

To my "inner circle of scrappin' sistas", I can't thank you enough for being there for me! Taking the time to listen and talk to me through this ordeal and praying for God's very best for us all the while! I believe Fab's worn her knees plumb out! I can't thank you enough!

Needless to say, I can now resume planning some of the "All Day and Into the Night Crops" for us local scrappers!!!! I can't tell you how many emails I've gotten about those!

Everyone have a wonderful October!

Thanks,

Terry Dunlap

Hello Mid South Scrappers!

September is already flying by at the speed of light and our Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza is just under five weeks away! Here's what happening right now ...

Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza ~

Space Available ... I have mapped off the room one more time and have two available tables! This means that we can host two more of the "Luxury Options" (2 people) or four more of the "Thrifty Options" (4 people). This also means that there is one room left! I fully expect that these two spaces/room will be snapped up real quick so please email me before you send in your registration.

Vendors ... We now have a full line of vendors for your shopping! Melissa Brazelton/Creative Memories, Ellen Barner/Stampin' Up!, Sherae Martin/Scrap Chic, Mary Kumph/Sassy Scrapper, Kathy Johnson/Oh Scrap Bags and Accessories, Terry Dunlap/Handmade Cards, and Fab Dorsett/Beauty Control and some fun, fashion jewelry.

Balance Due Date ... The date to have your balance in to me is September 24, 2010 which is less that two weeks away. Please note that, per your registration form, if your balance is not in my hand by that date you will forfeit your deposit. (This would also apply to a post-dated check.)

Cottage Mates, Roommates Listing & Extravaganza Information ... This information will be emailed to Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza participants in a separate email after September 24th.

Classes & Workshops ... There are going to be some classes and workshops offered during the course of our Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza weekend and participants will be emailed about those here shortly. Vendors that are going to be offering those need to finish up your final information on those and email them to me so I can send those out here shortly.

Future Croppin' Weekends ~

I've had several people ask about future weekends so here's the dates for 2011. The Pajama Crop Party Weekend is March 4th - 6th and the Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza Weekend is October 28th - 30th. Please note that registration for the Pajama Crop Party 2011 Weekend will begin October 22, 2010 with Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza participants and vendors having first dibs on their spaces. The registration for the Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza Weekend 2011 will begin March 12, 2011 with the Pajama Crop Party participants and vendors having first dibs on their spaces.

The word is really getting out there about these weekends as there are 27 brand new croppers coming to this Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza Weekend alone! This is absolutely awesome! I can't thank y'all enough for spreading the word!

On a Personal Note ~

We have not moved to Mountain Home, AR at this time. There are still several issues at hand but most everything should be worked out sometime over the next several weeks. For now, I'm still here and Glynn's working over there with me traveling back and forth for several days at a time.

Please don't hesitate to email me with any questions you may have.

Thanks,

Terry Dunlap

Late July - Early August Newsletter

Scrapper's Summer Camp ~ This event has come and gone all too fast! We had SEVEN new croppers at this event! We had a wonderful time despite some major changes at Kirkwood with regard to the kitchen and a crock pot that lost connection without the plug coming out of the wall. Outside of those, everything else was great! Everyone had a super time and got lots done! We ended up with a very small group of 22 croppers and were able to enjoy a wonderful table arrangement between two pods of croppers. The tables were arranged in two large squares allowing everyone in each pod to look across to every cropper. You didn't have to look up or down the row of tables and talk to the side of someone's head ... lol.

Bombshell Announcement ... Sort of ~ Glynn and I will be relocating to Mountain Home, AR!!!!! After several attempts, we're finally going to be able to make the move. Glynn's wanted to live in the Mountain Home area for over 20 years and he's extremely excited! I'm looking forward to it as well as it is BEAUTIFUL up there! It is a relatively small town that is growing by leaps and bounds. Right now it's about the size that Olive Branch, MS was about 12 years ago. Glynn is still going to be with FedEx but will be getting out of the "big truck" and he's looking forward to this as well. We don't have a move date yet but will be making our first trip up to have a look around this coming weekend. We're not going to make any hasty decisions so moving isn't going to be at the "speed of sound".

I know the first question is, "Are you still going to have the weekends over here?". The answer is "YES!" but you're going to have to be "on your own" for your meals, snacks and beverages. It's just not going to be feasible for me to continue to do this. At this time, it takes my car and Glynn's truck to bring everything that's required to take care of all of this. Both of us in two vehicles would not be cost-effective and it would require me getting here 2 - 3 days early to prepare everything. This would drive the cost of the event WAY up!

That said, I've attached the registration info for the October 15th weekend and Glynn will be updating the website to reflect the brochure sometime today. Please note that the cost has dropped due to being "on your own" for your meals, snacks and beverages. I've listed the local restaurants and stores of interest in order for you to take care of these things. (The Mexican restaurant is GREAT!)

Fall Scrappin' Extravaganza ~ (This is the weekend I just referred to.) It begins Friday, October 15th at 9 a.m. and ends Sunday, October 17th at 2 p.m. It is going to be held at The Cottages at Kirkwood at Kirkwood National Golf Course, 277 Palmer Lane, Holly Springs, MS. This is the same location where they have been held the past two times. There are four cottages reserved for this event.

There WILL NOT be any limit on the "Luxury Options" for this and all future events. However, since that's the most popular choice, spaces are going to fill up twice as fast as the "Luxury Option" takes up the space of two people. Registration begins this Friday, July 30th!

The "Luxury Option" is $140 and the "Thrifty Option" is $95. A $50 deposit will stake your claim and ALL balances must be paid by September 24, 2010, no exceptions. Balances not paid in full by 9/24/2010 will forfeit their deposit. Please note that these rates DO NOT include any meals, snacks or beverages. I will provide the ice chest for our ice and get the rolling cooler for y'all to put your bottled water in. (Put your initials on your bottle top.)

Hints for making this style not so overwhelming ~ Since most girls come together as a group anyway, this is super easy! If you are a group of two or three, you may want to go in with another group and I'll be glad to help you do that.

Here's what a group I'm with do at the "convention style" weekend that we go to in an effort to save money ... Each of us bring our own beverages and snacks. Then we divide into two groups. One group's responsible for lunch and one's responsible for dinner and we have enough for two of each one. The Cottages at Kirkwood make this a whole lot easier since there's a kitchen with a full-size refrigerator and a stove in each one! This also saves time by not having to "drive somewhere" to a restaurant. You can make this weekend as expensive or as inexpensive as you choose! We do pool our snacks together which gives us a greater variety. We all know that when we buy it, it's what we wanted but then when we're ready to eat it, we may want something else. Chances are someone else has it too and is glad to make a trade as they're wanting something else as well ... LOL. Our group had 8 last time so we had an awesome variety to choose from! It's going to be even bigger this time!

Vendors ~ Melissa Brazelton with Creative Memories and Kristin Taylor with Scrapbook Memory Garden have already staked their vendor spaces! I'm looking for a Close to My Heart, Stampin' Up! and/or a vendor with t-shirts and bling. If you're interested in vending, please send me an email at: terry@midsouthscrappers.com.

Miscellaneous ~ We are looking for venues to check out for holding the "All Day and Into the Night Crops" as well as the weekends in the Mountain Home, AR or surrounding areas and up to a couple of hours away from there. If you know of any places like this, please send me an email at: terry@midsouthscrappers.com and I'll be glad to get in touch with them.

Thanks so much!

Mid South Scrappers June 2010 Newsletters

Hello Mid South Scrappers ~

Summer's here, most kids are out of school and the long-awaited Memorial Weekend is upon us! Memorial Weekend also means that June 1st is next week! The only news I have for this edition of the MSS Newsletter is regarding the Scrapper's Summer Camp, so here's what's up ...

Registrations & Spaces Left: All spaces are available for the "luxury" option! I must have three cottages full of croppers for this weekend to be a go. Right now, there are 3.5 rooms left to fill to get the three. Most croppers have registered for the "luxury" option but you're welcome to register for whichever fits your budget. If you're going with the "thrifty" option (shared bed/table), please have a friend that's going to be registering for the other half.

Balances: I've talked with Jennifer at Kirkwood and have been able to extend the deadline for all balances until June 11th. I know it's only one additional week but it's a little extra time for those that might need it.

Vendors: I'm still looking for a couple of vendors. I'd really like to have a Close to My Heart and/or a Stampin' Up! vendor at the event. While I do understand that you don't carry much inventory, you'd be able to hold "fee for service" classes and be able to generate revenue from that.

Please note that any rooms remaining will be turned back in on June 11th, so if you've been "on the fence" about coming, you only have just over two weeks to make that decision final.

Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have! You're also more than welcome to pass it on to anyone that may be interested in coming to the weekend!

Have a safe and happy Memorial Weekend!

Thanks,

Terry Dunlap

Mid-Month Newsletter

Hello Mid South Scrappers ~

I've got a couple of quick updates for you ...

All Day and Into the Night Crops - At this time there is not an "All Day and Into the Night Crop" scheduled for July as I'm looking for another venue to host it. The hotel did negotiate with me, if you can call it that, by reducing the rate by a whole $25! That's a drop in the bucket compared to their increase. I've already checked out a couple of the other hotels near that Holiday Inn and their Meeting Rooms are just too small. The Pickering Center and the Homebuilder's Association are WAY too expensive so I'll be looking some more. I do want to hold to the new format of "being on your own" for you foods as this allows everyone to enjoy exactly what they want based on their tastes and lifestyles, so the crop fees will be much lower that the $40 as I'll be looking to keep it in the $20 - $25 range for a 12 hour period. I can tell you that I'll be looking at scheduling a crop for Saturday, July 10th if I can find a suitable location which is two weeks away from Scrapper's Summer Camp.

Scrapper's Summer Camp - Two important things here! First, I'm not going to limit the number of "luxury options" for the weekends. That said, you can go to the website, www.midsouthscrappers.com, and print off your registration form and send it in selecting the "luxury option" which is the bed and table to yourself if that's what you wanted. The second big thing is that there needs to be a whole lot of you sign up filling these cottages so the weekend can go on. At this present time, there's just not enough that have "officially" signed up to keep it afloat. I've heard from several croppers that plan on coming but I can't count you until you register and submit your payment.

Payments ... The deadline for all monies to be in is Friday, June 4th! This date is fast approaching!!!! It's only 3 weeks away from this Friday! That means that there's really not enough time for you to split your payments into three payments unless you're going to make a payment every week, which is fine.

Please note ... Glynn and I will be leaving for vacation this Saturday, May 15th and will not be returning until Monday, May 31st. If you send in your registration, please send me an email letting me know this and what you've paid for so I can mark my tally sheet which I will have with me while we're gone. You'll also need to let me know who your roommate or bed/table mate is depending on what you select if you have someone coming with you. If you don't have someone coming with you, I'll do my very best to place with croppers you're sure to love! You can also call me if you'd prefer at 901-413-1589.

Get the word out to your croppin' buds and get them fired up (and signed up) about spending a summer weekend away with just the girls!

Thanks,

Terry Dunlap

Mid South Scrappers May 2010 Newsletter

Mid South Scrappers May 2010 Newsletter

Hello Ladies! We've already had a little taste of the summer that's yet to come so let me tell you what's in store for croppin'...

All Day and Into the Night Crops:

I'd like to thank you for the responses given about the format of the "All Day and Into the Night Crops". The overall consensus was to be "on your own" for your meals. At the April 17th "All Day and Into the Night Crop" I passed out information for the next crop taking this into consideration (along with the hefty rate increase from the Holiday Inn) letting you make your own decisions for your meals as well as your snacks and beverages for this event thus reducing the rate from $40 down to $25. I also changed the hours to 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. as most folks call it a day after that time period anyway. I called this a "bare bones" crop, meaning that you would be paying for your crop space only and I would continue to provide ice for your beverages as well as run the power cords for you to hook up to for your electronic items. I have had no takers for this crop/format to date so I have canceled that booking. I do want to let you know that at $25 for 12 hours, you're paying $2.08 per hour to crop in a climate controlled environment where you have no responsibility for setting up and/or cleaning up, you just come in, crop and go.

Scrapper's Summer Camp:

Registration is underway for our Scrapper's Summer Camp being held the weekend of July 23rd - 25th at Kirkwood National Golf Course in Holly Springs, MS. Registrations for the "luxury option" are full and there have been a few register for the "thrifty option" but we're no where near where we need to be for this weekend to be a "go". I have had several croppers give me a "verbal" intent of coming but can't count you until you officially register. Also, since April is almost over, any payment plan option will have to be fulfilled in a shorter time period as all monies have to be in by June 4th which is five short weeks away. If the "luxury option" is what you really wanted and not being able to have this has stopped you from coming, please send me an email at: terry@midsouthscrappers.com and we'll go from there.

Vendors:

At this time we have two vendors for this event, Melissa Brazelton/Creative Memories and Kristin Taylor/Scrapbook Memory Garden. If you represent a home based paper crafting company and you'd be interested in vending please send me your information and I'll be glad to get with you regarding the criteria for being a vendor.

Thanks,
